well, one big portion of it is the use of the word "we."

and if we weren't being worried or exasperated then either our kids aren't pushing the envelope or they're keeping secrets from us.

yeah but there's keeping secrets cause you're a kid and that's normal and Keeping Secrets cause you just don't tell your parents anything. there's also successfully keeping secrets and them thinking they've kept a secret. We know the tells pretty damn well
